Ambassador Kwatra, Assistant Secretary Kapur Discuss Trade, Security Ahead of Possible Trump Visit
WASHINGTON: India’s Ambassador to the US, Vinay Kwatra, and Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Paul Kapur, held their second bilateral meeting in just four days on Thursday, underscoring the rapid pace of high-level engagement between Washington and New Delhi.
The two officials met at the State Department, following their initial discussion at the Indian Ambassador’s residence on Monday. Their talks focused on advancing the US-India partnership and aligning on shared priorities, according to statements from both sides.
The meeting comes as US President Donald Trump indicated plans to visit India soon, praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “great man” and his “friend.”
Kapur, an Indian-American diplomat recently confirmed as Assistant Secretary, highlighted the strong ties between the US and India, noting critical cooperation across multiple sectors. The shared interests discussed included trade, technology, energy, and regional security in South and Central Asia.
A seasoned diplomat and security expert, Mr. Kapur has a background working extensively on India-US strategic and defence engagements, placing the renewed focus on strategic and security partnership at the core of the diplomatic agenda.
