ADDIS ABABA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali presided over the signing of three key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on Tuesday, marking a significant escalation in bilateral relations between the two nations.
The agreements focus on enhancing mutual administrative assistance in customs matters, the establishment of a dedicated data center at the Ethiopian Embassy, and deepened cooperation in United Nations peacekeeping operations. The signing followed wide-ranging discussions between the two leaders covering all aspects of India-Ethiopia ties.
Arriving in Addis Ababa for his first official visit to the country, Prime Minister Modi was accorded a warm reception, with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali personally receiving him at the airport. The visit commenced with a traditional Coffee Ceremony, followed by a ceremonial welcome and a guard of honor at The National Palace.
During his tour of the capital, PM Modi visited the Science Museum to observe Ethiopia’s progress in innovation, as well as Friendship Park and Friendship Square. The Prime Minister is scheduled to attend a community dinner hosted by Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali this evening.
This landmark visit is set to conclude tomorrow after Prime Minister Modi addresses a joint session of the Ethiopian Parliament, further cementing the historic and personal ties between the two leaders and their respective nations.
