Ministers Co-chair Joint Commission Meeting in Abu Dhabi; UAE Backs India’s 2026 BRICS Presidency
ABU DHABI: India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) and pledged to intensify their collaborative efforts for the Global South. The consensus was reached during high-level diplomatic talks co-chaired by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The leaders convened for the 16th India-UAE Joint Commission Meeting and the 5th round of the India-UAE Strategic Dialogue on Tuesday. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the discussions involved a comprehensive review of the bilateral “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” spanning trade, investment, energy, defense, and emerging technologies.
Connectivity: Both nations prioritized the accelerated implementation of the IMEC, a strategic transit project aimed at boosting trade between Asia and Europe.
Global Leadership: The UAE officially expressed its support for India’s upcoming AI Impact Summit in New Delhi and endorsed India’s BRICS Presidency in 2026.
Regional Stability: The ministers exchanged views on the prevailing situation in West Asia, stressing a shared interest in maintaining regional peace and security.
The meeting highlighted the growing synergy between the two nations, particularly in education, healthcare, and people-to-people ties. Dr. Jaishankar noted that the depth of the partnership reflects a mutual vision for a stable and prosperous regional order.
