MEA Thanks Oman for Role in Securing Release of Indian Mariner Detained in Yemen Since July
New Delhi: The Government of India has welcomed the release of Indian crew member Anilkumar Raveendran, who had been under detention in Yemen since July 7, 2025. Raveendran, who was serving aboard the ship MV Eternity C, reached Muscat on Tuesday and is expected to travel back to India soon, marking the end of a nearly five-month ordeal.
Raveendran, a former army personnel from Pathiyoor, was among the crew members of the Liberia-flagged cargo vessel that went missing following a suspected Houthi missile attack in the Red Sea in early July. Following the incident, the crew members were detained in Yemen. During his detention, Raveendran managed to contact his family, assuring them of his safety.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that the government had been consistently coordinating efforts with various parties and working through diplomatic channels and regional partners to ensure his safe release and return.
In a statement, the MEA expressed its gratitude to the Sultanate of Oman for its critical role in facilitating Raveendran’s freedom and safe passage. His successful return brings much-awaited relief to his anxiously awaiting relatives.
