EAM Jaishankar Chairs Consul Generals Conference in New York, Focuses on Bilateral Cooperation and Diaspora Engagement

Top Indian Diplomats in US Meet in New York to Review India-US Partnership and Support for Diaspora Activities

NEW YORK, US: External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar yesterday chaired a crucial conference of Indian Consul Generals in New York, convening senior Indian diplomats from missions across the United States. The high-level meeting was primarily focused on reviewing the robust India-US bilateral cooperation and enhancing engagement with the large and influential Indian diaspora.

The conference brought together senior diplomats from the Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C., and the heads of Consulates General stationed in key US cities: New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, Boston, Los Angeles, and Seattle. Indian Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Kwatra, was also in attendance.

In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) following the meeting, Dr. Jaishankar underscored the purpose of the gathering. He wrote: “Chaired a Consul Generals Conference in New York today. Reviewed our bilateral ties and support for diaspora activities. Appreciate the commitment and efforts of our Embassy & Consulates to strengthening the India-US partnership.”

The meeting served as an important platform for the leadership to coordinate efforts across all Indian missions in the US, ensuring streamlined execution of New Delhi’s foreign policy objectives concerning its most crucial strategic partner.

Meeting with UN Secretary-General

The conference follows EAM Jaishankar’s busy schedule of diplomatic engagements in New York. On Thursday, the External Affairs Minister held a wide-ranging discussion with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the United Nations Headquarters.

Jaishankar later posted on X that he “valued [Guterres’s] assessment of the current global order and its implications for multilateralism,” and appreciated his perspectives on various regional hotspots, thanking the UN Chief for his “clear and consistent support for India’s growth and development.”

The EAM’s series of meetings in New York highlight India’s continuous push to strengthen the strategic partnership with the US while actively engaging with global challenges at the multilateral level.
