Home Minister Highlights RERA Success and GST Reforms as Catalysts for Urban Transformation
NEW DELHI :Addressing the Confederation of Real Estate Developer Associations of India (CREDAI) National Conclave 2025 today, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah emphasized the government’s 11-year track record in building next-generation infrastructure. Speaking at the “Viksit Bharat @ 2047” themed event, Shah outlined a strategic roadmap designed to place India among the world’s top infrastructure powers.
The Minister credited flagship initiatives such as the National Infrastructure Pipeline, Bharatmala, and Sagarmala for providing the backbone of modern urban development. He noted that with India’s urban population projected to hit 50% by 2047, the real estate sector carries a vital responsibility to meet housing demands responsibly.
Highlighting regulatory milestones, Shah described the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) as a “structural breakthrough.”
“RERA has transitioned from a point of apprehension to a globally recognized framework that protects homebuyers and ensures quality construction,” Shah stated, noting its adoption by 35 states and Union Territories.
The Minister also pointed to GST reforms as a primary driver for the sector, specifically citing the reduction of GST on affordable housing to 1% and on construction materials like cement and marble.
Sharing the stage, Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav linked real estate directly to India’s 2070 Net Zero target, urging developers to adopt climate-resilient planning, including heat-adaptive materials and increased green cover. He stressed that sustainability is no longer optional but a foundational requirement for “future-ready” cities.
