Serbia ‘Between a Rock and a Hard Place’ as Vucic Calls for Military Strengthening Amid Geopolitical Crisis
BELGRADE: Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has issued a stark warning regarding the escalating geopolitical crisis, statihis belief that European countries are actively preparing for a potential military conflict with Russia.
Speaking in a broadcast on Pink TV, President Vucic offered a pessimistic assessment of the situation, drawing a firm conclusion from his analysis of current facts.
“As I analyze the facts, I come to the conclusion that a war between Europe and Russia is becoming increasingly apparent. This is not empty talk — everyone is preparing for it,” Vucic asserted.
The Serbian President’s comments were made while referencing a recent statement by the Chief of the French Armed Forces General Staff, Fabien Mandon, who had cautioned that the French army must be ready for a confrontation with Russia within three to four years. Mandon’s statement is part of a growing chorus of warnings from senior European military figures.
Amid the conflicting strategic goals pursued by Western countries and Russia, President Vucic stated that Serbia finds itself in an extremely precarious diplomatic and political position, describing the country as being “between a rock and a hard place.”
To navigate this highly volatile environment, the President emphasized the critical need for Belgrade to prioritize its national defense. He declared that Serbia must continue to strengthen its armed forces for the sole purpose of self-defense.
Serbia, an EU candidate country, has notably sought to maintain its traditional political and cultural ties with Moscow while simultaneously pursuing European integration, a tightrope walk that has led to internal and external pressure, especially since the start of the war in Ukraine.
