LUANDA, ANGOLA / NEW DELHI :President Droupadi Murmu, currently on a state visit to Africa, spoke with Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the phone from Angola today to take stock of the situation following the devastating car explosion in New Delhi last evening.
Sources indicate that the President enquired about the details of the blast, which occurred near the Red Fort Metro Station and has prompted a high-level, multi-agency investigation.
The explosion, which took place in a slow-moving Hyundai i20 car at a busy traffic signal on Monday evening, resulted in multiple casualties and injuries, and caused significant damage to nearby vehicles.
The incident has triggered a high-security alert across the national capital and surrounding states, with agencies including the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the National Security Guard (NSG) deployed for the probe. The Delhi Police have registered a case under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Act.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have both publicly assured the nation that the perpetrators of the tragedy will be identified and brought to justice.
