Budget Preparation Kicks Off: FM Chairs First Round of Meetings for Union Budget 2026-27
NEW DELHI:Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman today chaired the first Pre-Budget consultation meeting with the country’s leading economists in New Delhi for the preparation of the upcoming Union Budget 2026-27.
The meeting, which began at 10 AM and was scheduled to run until 12 Noon, formally marked the start of the annual series of Pre-Budget discussions conducted by the Finance Ministry.
As detailed in a social media post by the Ministry of Finance, attendees included the Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), the Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India, and other senior officers from the DEA.
The consultation with economists is to be immediately followed by another round of discussions in the afternoon with eminent agriculturists and farmer organisations, scheduled from 1 PM to 3 PM.
These Pre-Budget meetings are a crucial annual process where government finance officials and the Finance Minister engage with various stakeholders to gather inputs and discuss priorities before the final annual budget is formulated and presented to the legislature.
