Comprehensive Trade Negotiations Between India and EU Finish; Commitment to Balanced Deal Reaffirmed

New Delhi: A senior team of negotiators from the European Union (EU) concluded a week-long round of talks with their Indian counterparts in New Delhi yesterday, focusing on the proposed India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The negotiations, which commenced on the 3rd of this month, covered a wide spectrum of issues aimed at a comprehensive, balanced, and mutually beneficial trade agreement.

According to the Commerce and Industry Ministry, deliberations during the session covered several key chapters of the proposed FTA, including Goods, Services, Investment, Trade, Sustainable Development, Rules of Origin and Technical Trade Barriers

During the visit, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal held detailed meetings with the Director-General for Trade of the European Commission, Ms. Sabine Weyand. They took stock of the progress achieved across the various negotiating tracks.

The Commerce Secretary reaffirmed India’s commitment to achieving an outcome that not only promotes economic growth and development but also ensures a fair and balanced distribution of benefits for both parties. Both India and the EU reaffirmed their commitment to finalizing a comprehensive and balanced trade agreement.
