BEIJING: Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on Monday, emphasizing Beijing’s commitment to strengthening the coordination of economic development strategies with Moscow. The meeting highlighted the deepening economic and strategic ties between the two nations.

During the talks, Premier Li stated that China is “ready to consolidate the integration of development strategies with Russia, expand cooperation across the board and continuously develop Chinese-Russian relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation in the new era.” He added that the two nations should “progress along the path of modernization together.”

According to China’s state-owned public broadcaster, CCTV, the two premiers concurred that the strategic guidance provided by the leaders of both countries offers political guarantees for the stability and expansion of the Sino-Russian relationship and their extensive cooperation.

To further deepen these ties, the sides proposed expanding existing cooperation mechanisms and increasing investment in various bilateral projects. While specific sectors were not detailed in the initial reports, previous high-level meetings between the countries have focused on energy, technology, and infrastructure development.

The meeting between the two prime ministers comes as both nations navigate a complex global political environment. China has maintained a close relationship with Russia, framing it as a “no-limits partnership,” despite Western sanctions imposed on Moscow following its actions in Ukraine.

The commitment to aligning development strategies suggests a move toward greater economic interdependence, particularly as both nations seek to build resilience against external pressures and potentially reduce reliance on Western-dominated economic systems.
