MOSCOW: The Kremlin today acknowledged the “very serious” nature of recent statements made by US President Donald Trump, indicating that Moscow will require time to thoroughly analyze his rhetoric. Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov conveyed this during a news briefing, noting that certain remarks concerned President Vladimir Putin personally, Tass reported.
President Trump outlined his latest stance on resolving the Ukraine conflict few days ago. In a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, the US leader expressed his “disappointment” with Russia and specifically with President Vladimir Putin. Reports reaching ATP said, He also announced a significant policy shift, stating that the US would be sending more weapons and military aid to Kyiv, with European nations funding these purchases in coordination with NATO.
Adding to his pronouncements, President Trump threatened to impose “tariffs of about 100%” against Russia and its trade partners if a peace deal is not reached within 50 days.
“The latest statements from the US president are very serious. Something in them concerns President [Vladimir] Putin personally,” Peskov stated. “We will certainly need time to analyze the rhetoric from Washington,” he added, without providing immediate detailed commentary on each aspect of Trump’s remarks.
The Kremlin’s measured response suggests a cautious approach as it processes the implications of Trump’s seemingly tougher stance, which marks a notable shift from his previous rhetoric regarding Russia and the Ukraine conflict. (ATP)
