JAIPUR, RAJASTHAN: The death toll in a horrific road accident on Sikar Road in Jaipur rose to 13 on Monday after a speeding dumper truck lost control and rammed into multiple vehicles, leaving a scene of devastation in its wake. Six other people are reported to be critically injured and are currently undergoing intensive treatment at SMS Hospital in Jaipur.
The tragic incident occurred this morning when the dumper truck, travelling on Sikar Road, went on an uncontrolled rampage, colliding with and crushing several vehicles, including cars and motorcycles. Eyewitness accounts suggest the impact was massive, reducing many vehicles to crumpled wreckage.
In a significant development, police have arrested the driver of the dumper truck. Preliminary reports indicate that the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, a factor that authorities believe may have contributed to the extreme loss of control and the resultant high casualty count.
Police have launched a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances and full sequence of events leading to one of the deadliest road accidents the city has witnessed in recent times.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed deep grief over the “tragic and heart-wrenching” loss of lives. He has directed concerned officials to ensure that the injured receive the best possible medical care immediately.
In response to the growing concern over road fatalities, the Chief Minister has called a high-level meeting for this evening to comprehensively review the rising number of road accidents across Rajasthan and formulate stricter measures for traffic regulation and heavy vehicle checks.
The incident comes barely a day after 15 people were killed in a separate collision involving a tempo traveller in Phalodi district, putting the state’s road safety record under intense scrutiny.
