Historic Monastery Visit Marks Start of Indian Delegation’s Four-Day Tour to Deepen Bilateral Ties
NEW DELHI: Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has commenced a four-day official visit to Bhutan, leading a high-level delegation from the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance. The visit is aimed at further strengthening the enduring economic and developmental partnership between the two neighbouring nations.
The Ministry of Finance today underscored the significance of the trip, stating that it is “rooted in mutual respect, trust, and shared commitment to progress and prosperity in the region.”
The Finance Minister is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with the leadership of the Royal Government of Bhutan. Key official calls include: His Majesty the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. Prime Minister of Bhutan, Dasho Tshering Tobgay.
The high-level discussions are expected to focus on enhancing India–Bhutan economic and financial cooperation across various sectors.
The official tour is set to begin later today with a visit to the historic Sangchen Choekhor Monastery. Established in 1765, the monastery is a significant cultural and educational centre, currently home to over 100 monks engaged in advanced Buddhist studies.
The trip itinerary blends official policy discussions with a cultural immersion, symbolic of the deep historical and cultural ties that bind India and the Himalayan kingdom.
