IMD Downgrades Montha, Monitors Separate Depression Over Arabian Sea
HYDERABAD (ATP) :The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday announced that Cyclonic Storm Montha has significantly weakened, being downgraded to a Deep Depression centered over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Telangana.
The weather system, which had moved north-northwestwards at a speed of 15 kilometres per hour during the past six hours, is currently centered approximately 50 kilometres south-southeast of Bhadrachalam in Telangana. It is also situated about 110 kilometres east of Khammam (Telangana), 130 kilometres south-southwest of Malkangiri (Odisha), and 220 kilometres south-southwest of Jagdalpur (Chhattisgarh).
The IMD forecast indicates that the Deep Depression is likely to continue its north-northwestward track across Andhra Pradesh, adjoining Telangana, and south Chhattisgarh, further weakening into a Depression within the next six hours.
“The Cyclonic Storm Montha has weakened into a Deep Depression over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Telangana,” the IMD stated in its advisory.
Meanwhile, the weather bureau is also monitoring a separate system in the western region. A Depression over the East Central Arabian Sea remained practically stationary during the past three hours.
This Depression is centered about 410 kilometres west-southwest of Mumbai in Maharashtra, 430 kilometres southwest of Veraval in Gujarat, and 560 kilometres west-northwest of Panjim in Goa.
The IMD has forecast this Arabian Sea system is likely to move northeastwards across the East Central Arabian Sea during the next 36 hours.
