MUMBAI: Veteran Bollywood actor Govardhan Asrani, best known for his iconic comic roles, passed away in Mumbai yesterday, Monday, October 20, at the age of 84. Family sources confirmed the news, stating the veteran star breathed his last around 4 PM.
A Prolific Career Defined by Laughter
With a remarkable career spanning over five decades, Asrani’s contribution to Hindi cinema—especially in the genre of comedy—was both prolific and profound. He was a master of comic timing and delivered countless memorable performances that delighted audiences across generations.
His most recognizable role remains that of the eccentric jailer in the cult classic film, ‘Sholay’. Beyond this iconic performance, he also starred in numerous other hits, including Chupke Chupke, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Dhamaal, and more recently, Bunty Aur Babli 2.
Asrani’s journey began in his hometown of Jaipur, Rajasthan, where he was educated at St. Xavier’s School before embarking on his remarkable journey in Indian cinema.
