Maduro Appeals for ‘Peace’ as US Weighs ‘Land’ Strikes After Deadly Caribbean Raids
Washington, D.C : President Donald Trump publicly confirmed authorizing covert CIA operations in Venezuela, citing claims that the country is “emptying their prisons” and the flow of drugs as his rationale.
This highly unusual disclosure comes amid increased US military activity in the Caribbean, including recent strikes on suspected drug-carrying boats that killed 27 people, which human rights experts have labeled “extrajudicial executions.” Trump also signaled a potential expansion, stating the US “is looking at land” for further strikes.
In response to the escalation and the reported buildup of 10,000 US forces in the region, Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro appealed directly to the US public, urging “no war, yes peace.”
Trump’s confirmation marks a significant increase in pressure on the Maduro regime, fueling fears of military conflict.
