NEW DELHI: Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Science and Technology, today lauded the SVAMITVA scheme as a “global model of citizen-centric governance” that empowers individuals and modernizes land management. Speaking at a high-level review meeting of the Survey of India, he emphasized that the initiative enables citizens to “self-map land,” thereby reducing their dependence on traditional, often complex, revenue systems.

Technological Advancement: Dr. Singh highlighted the Survey of India’s crucial technical support for flagship national missions like AMRUT, Smart Cities, and NAKSHA. He announced that the department will integrate AI and Machine Learning to upgrade its technology and capabilities further.

Global Reach: The Minister noted the scheme’s international recognition, mentioning that Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed with Russia and Nigeria, with six more in progress.

Ambitious Mapping Goal: Dr. Singh outlined a plan to complete high-resolution topographical mapping of the entire country by 2030. The goal is to achieve a resolution of 5-10 cm for urban and rural areas and 50-100 cm for forests and wastelands.

Transforming the Survey of India: Dr. Singh called for a national workshop to showcase the Survey of India’s transformation from a traditional “map producer” to a modern “geo-spatial enabler.”  (ATP)
