MEA: India’s Defense and Energy Sourcing Guided by National Interests

NEW DELHI – The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) today stated that India’s defense and energy sourcing decisions are based solely on the country’s national security imperatives and strategic assessments.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, in a media briefing, emphasized that India’s bilateral relationships, including with Russia, are “steady and time-tested” and should not be viewed through the lens of a third country. He also highlighted the strong and comprehensive strategic partnership with the United States, stating that it has “weathered several transitions and challenges.” Jaiswal added that there is potential for further growth in the India-US defense partnership under the “COMPACT for the 21st century.”
