Record Productivity in Both Houses as Eight Key Legislations Receive Nod
NEW DELHI :The 19-day Winter Session of Parliament concluded today with both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha adjourned sine die. The session was marked by significant legislative output, including the passage of eight pivotal bills, most notably the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Bill, 2025.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla reported a stellar productivity rate of 111 per cent across 15 sittings. Similarly, Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan noted that the Upper House functioned for approximately 92 hours, achieving 121 per cent productivity. The session also featured a special discussion marking the 150th anniversary of the National Song, Vande Mataram.
The centerpiece of the session, the VB-G RAM G Bill, replaces the two-decade-old MGNREGA. It increases the statutory guarantee of wage employment from 100 to 125 days per household annually. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju emphasized that these reforms would align rural development with the “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision by integrating employment with the creation of durable infrastructure.
Despite the high productivity, the session saw intense protests from Opposition members regarding the renaming of the rural job scheme and the shift in financial burden to state governments. Other passed legislations include the SHANTI Bill, aimed at opening the civil nuclear sector to private participation.
