New Delhi Becomes Global Hub for Traditional Medicine with Inauguration of Regional WHO Office
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today declared that “restoring balance” in health and lifestyle has evolved from a global cause into a “global urgency.” Addressing the closing ceremony of the 2nd WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine at Bharat Mandapam, the Prime Minister emphasized that traditional healthcare systems must win global trust through rigorous scientific validation.
The summit, held under the theme “Restoring Balance: The Science and Practice of Health and Well-being,” served as a platform for India to showcase its leadership in integrating ancient wisdom with modern technology. PM Modi, alongside WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, inaugurated the new WHO South-East Asia Regional Office (SEARO) complex in Delhi, describing it as a “humble gift” from India to the world.
Scientific Validation: He cited Ashwagandha as a success story of evidence-based promotion, noting its surge in global demand following Indian research.
Digital Transformation: The launch of the My Ayush Integrated Services Portal (MAISP) and the Traditional Medicine Global Library, a repository of 1.6 million scientific records.
Quality Benchmarking: The unveiling of the ‘Ayush Mark’, envisioned as a global gold standard for the quality and authenticity of traditional products.
The Prime Minister also announced strategic “healing partnerships,” including a Centre of Excellence for BIMSTEC countries and a high-tech collaboration with Japan. Dr. Tedros lauded India’s efforts, stating that the nation has proven tradition and innovation can coexist to provide sustainable health solutions for all.
