PM Modi Hails ‘Project Cheetah’ on International Cheetah Day
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes to wildlife lovers and conservationists today on International Cheetah Day, celebrating the progress of the nation’s ambitious conservation efforts.
In a social media post, the Prime Minister called the cheetah “one of the planet’s most remarkable creatures” and recalled the success of Project Cheetah, launched three years ago. He emphasized that the project was initiated to safeguard the magnificent animal, restore the ecosystem, and revive India’s lost ecological heritage to strengthen biodiversity.
PM Modi noted that India is now proud to be home to several cheetahs, with a significant number of cubs born on Indian soil. He expressed his pleasure over the growing popularity of cheetah tourism and encouraged wildlife enthusiasts from across the world to visit India and witness the animal “in all its splendour.”
The Prime Minister also lauded the collective support of the public and the dedicated ‘Cheetah Mitras’ (Friends of the Cheetah). He underscored that protecting wildlife is integral to India’s civilisational ethos, a spirit he said is actively alive in the conservation efforts today.
