Tesla CEO Calls for H-1B Reform to Stop ‘Gaming’ by Outsourcing Firms, Not Shutdown
SAN FRANCISCO, CA: Tesla CEO Elon Musk has publicly defended the crucial H-1B visa program, asserting that the U.S. economy has “benefited immensely” from the influx of high-skilled Indian immigrants. Musk made the comments during a recent podcast conversation with Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath.
The tech magnate stressed that America is in greater need of high-skill workers from India now more than ever, noting that his companies constantly struggle to fill specialized roles due to a “scarcity of talented people.”
While defending the H-1B visa—which allows U.S. employers to hire foreign professionals in specialty occupations—as a necessary pipeline for global talent, Musk also addressed its vulnerabilities. He criticized certain outsourcing firms for having “gamed the system” and urged for targeted reforms to prevent misuse rather than shutting down the program entirely.
Musk’s remarks come amid heightened scrutiny and a stricter regulatory posture for the H-1B program under President Donald Trump’s second term, highlighting a tense, ongoing national debate over skilled foreign labor.
