Defence Cooperation an ‘Important Pillar’: Ministers Review Regional Security, Deepen Strategic Partnership
New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today co-chaired the third India-Indonesia Defence Ministers’ Dialogue in New Delhi, where he underscored the profound historical foundation of the relationship between the two maritime neighbours.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Singh stated that India and Indonesia share civilisational ties that stretch back thousands of years, encompassing deep historical, cultural, and civilizational linkages. He emphasized that shared values such as pluralism, inclusiveness, and the rule of law are common to both nations and provide direction to their contemporary relationship.
The Defence Minister affirmed that the dialogue, held with Indonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, serves as a testament to the growing strength of their defence cooperation, which he called an “important pillar of our cooperation.”
The Ministry of Defence confirmed that during the bilateral meeting, the ministers were set to review regional security developments, discuss multilateral issues, and explore new areas to deepen cooperation. The Indonesian Minister’s two-day visit reflects the growing momentum in defence engagement, an interaction that follows the Indonesian President’s visit to India in January, which further reinforced the strategic importance both countries attach to their defence ties.
