Classified Mission Carried Out by Aerospace Forces from Plesetsk Cosmodrome

MOSCOW: Russia successfully launched a set of undisclosed military satellites yesterday aboard an Angara-1.2 light launch vehicle, according to the state-run news agency.

The lift-off occurred at 4:42 pm Moscow time from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome, the world’s northernmost spaceport, located in the Arkhangelsk region.

The Russian defence ministry confirmed the mission but maintained strict secrecy regarding the payload. The ministry did not reveal the number or specific nature of the satellites placed into orbit, stating only that the mission was carried out “in the interests of the defence ministry” by a combat crew of the Aerospace Forces.

The use of the Angara-1.2 underscores Russia’s ongoing effort to modernize its space launch infrastructure. The Angara family of rockets represents the nation’s latest generation of modular launch vehicles, designed to gradually replace older, Soviet-era systems for both civil and military missions. The classified launch highlights Russia’s continued strategic commitment to strengthening its national security space capabilities.
