Global Engine OEM Safran Establishes First Dedicated MRO Operation in India
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) facility at the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park in Hyderabad tomorrow via video conferencing, the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed in a statement.
SAESI is Safran’s dedicated Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility designed to service leading-edge aviation propulsion engines. The inauguration marks a significant milestone for India’s aerospace sector, as it is the first time a global engine Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) has established a full-scale MRO operation in the country.
This new facility is a major step towards achieving the goal of self-reliance (Aatmanirbhar Bharat) in the vital aviation sector. Developing indigenous MRO capabilities is expected to yield substantial economic and strategic benefits, including reducing foreign exchange outflow, creating high-value employment opportunities, and strengthening critical supply-chain resilience. Ultimately, the move is designed to position India as a future global aviation maintenance and repair hub.
