Putin Welcomes US Peace Plan, Threatens Deeper Advance if Ukraine Refuses

Zelenskiy Warns of Losing Dignity or US Backing Amid Trump’s Deadline on 28-Point Deal

MOSCOW/KYIV: Russian President Vladimir Putin today warned that Russian forces would advance further into Ukraine if Kyiv rejected a newly proposed 28-point US peace plan. Speaking to the Russian Security Council, President Putin cautiously welcomed the plan, suggesting it “could form the basis for a final peaceful settlement.”

The Russian President confirmed Moscow had received a copy of the deal, which reportedly endorses key Russian demands concerning NATO, territory, and recognition of Russian-controlled regions, but noted it had not yet been discussed in detail with the United States.

President Putin stated that Ukraine and its European powers were under illusions and failed to understand the “reality” that Russian forces were advancing and would continue to do so unless a peace agreement was reached.

The warning comes as US President Donald Trump issued a one-week deadline for Kyiv to accept the comprehensive proposal.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy issued a somber warning to his nation, cautioning that Ukraine risked either “losing its dignity and freedom” or the potential loss of Washington’s backing over the controversial US peace plan. The pressure on Kyiv to make a decision has intensified following the US deadline.
