Award to Former Chilean President Insults Every Indian, Alleges BJP
New Delhi (ATP): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, alleging it had “insulted every Indian citizen” by conferring the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development-2024 upon former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet.
According to reports, Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia stated that Bachelet, who also served as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, is known for her critical remarks concerning India’s internal matters, specifically citing her past comments on Kashmir and the abrogation of Article 370.
“Former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet is known for her critical remarks about India,” Bhatia said. He alleged that by giving the award to her, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi had insulted every citizen of the country.
The BJP spokesperson further alleged that the Congress Party is concerned only with power and is well known for taking positions that appear contrary to India’s interests. The award was presented by Sonia Gandhi at a ceremony held earlier this week.
