NSA Ajit Doval Hosts Regional Counterparts; Calls for Shared Responsibility in Securing Maritime Region

NEW DELHI: The 7th Meeting of the National Security Advisers (NSAs) of the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) commenced in New Delhi this morning, focusing on enhancing regional security and cooperation amid a challenging global security landscape.

India’s NSA, Ajit Doval, is hosting his counterparts from the Member States: Maldives, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. The meeting also sees the participation of Seychelles as an Observer State and Malaysia as a special Guest.

Addressing the high-level conclave, NSA Doval underscored the growing importance of the CSC. He highlighted that the “ocean is our biggest heritage, and it is the engine that propels the economies.”

Doval emphasized the shared responsibility of the Member States, who are connected by a common maritime geography, to ensure the “stability, security, and safety of the region”. His remarks reflect the CSC’s founding vision: to promote closer cooperation on vital security matters and strengthen partnerships across the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

A primary agenda item for the 7th Meeting is the discussion and finalization of the Roadmap and Action Plan for 2026, charting the future course for collaborative security efforts within the Conclave.

The CSC, initially formed to institutionalize security cooperation among its core members, has gained significant traction, becoming a vital forum for addressing non-traditional and traditional security threats across the sensitive Indian Ocean space.
