Tehran Rejects Accusations of Military Support to Russia and Slams Endorsement of UN Sanctions ‘Snapback’

Tehran: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei today strongly dismissed the latest joint statement by the Group of Seven (G7) foreign ministers, labeling their claims against Tehran as “baseless and irresponsible.”

The G7—comprising the world’s leading industrialized democracies—had leveled several significant accusations against Iran, most notably alleging that Tehran was supplying military support to Russia in the ongoing war in Ukraine.

In their communiqué, the G7 also urged Iran to fully comply with its obligations under relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The group further called on Tehran to resume full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), including by allowing comprehensive inspections.

Furthermore, the G7 called for Iran to engage in direct talks with the United States and abide by the UN sanctions that were recently reinstated through the snapback mechanism—a move initiated by the E3 (France, Germany, and the UK) and backed by Washington.

In response, Baghaei condemned the G7 for supporting what he termed the “illegal and unjustified” efforts by the U.S. and the E3 to restore sanctions. He criticized the G7 for its “hypocritical” stance of demanding nuclear cooperation while simultaneously ignoring what he referred to as alleged Israeli-U.S. attacks on Iran’s “peaceful nuclear facilities.”

Baghaei firmly rejected the accusations related to the Ukraine conflict, reiterating Iran’s principled opposition to the war and its consistent support for resolving the conflict through dialogue and negotiation.
