India, US Navies Prioritize Indo-Pacific Security and Operational Linkages

NEW DELHI/WASHINGTON D.C. Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, today commenced a six-day official visit to the United States aimed at significantly strengthening the robust and enduring maritime partnership between the Indian Navy and the United States Navy.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) stated that the visit, running from November 12 to 17, is a key pillar of the India–US Defence Partnership and underscores India’s commitment to deepening cooperation toward realizing the vision of a free, open, inclusive, and rules-based Indo-Pacific.

Admiral Tripathi is scheduled to hold discussions with senior officials of the US Department of War and other high-ranking dignitaries. The key agenda for these interactions will revolve around shared maritime priorities and multilateral frameworks.

Discussions are expected to focus heavily on Shared Maritime Priorities in the Indo-Pacific region and Collaboration within multilateral frameworks such as the Indian Navy-hosted naval exercise MILAN.

Initiatives of the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), a multinational naval partnership.

The CNS will also meet with top US naval leadership, including Admiral Samuel J. Paparo, Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM), and Admiral Stephen T. Koehler, Commander of the United States Pacific Fleet (USPACFLT).

The MoD further noted that these high-level engagements will provide a crucial opportunity to review ongoing maritime cooperation and enhance operational-level linkages between the two navies.

Specifically, the visit aims to Strengthen mechanisms for information sharing and Improve maritime domain awareness between the Indian and US Navies.

Admiral Tripathi’s itinerary also includes engagements with key naval institutions and operational commands of the US Navy. The visit coincides with the ongoing Exercise Malabar 2025, a multilateral naval exercise involving the Quad nations (India, US, Japan, and Australia), further highlighting the strong interoperability and coordination efforts in the West Pacific training area.
