NEW DELHI – Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh today announced that India’s care economy is embarking on a “new era,” propelled by compassion, innovation, and technology to support the country’s rapidly growing ageing population.
Addressing the inaugural session of the CII Senior Care Conclave in New Delhi, Dr. Singh emphasized that while India is proud of its youth demographic, the increasing number of senior citizens presents both a challenge and a significant opportunity.
Dr. Singh urged a shift in perspective, stressing that senior citizens must be recognized as an active and knowledgeable section of society whose experience can contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to improving the ‘ease of living’ for the elderly through reforms under the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare.
Technology-Driven Reforms: The Minister specifically pointed to the success of technology-driven initiatives such as Face Authentication for life certificates and the simplification of pension systems, which have reduced inconvenience for retired citizens.
To build an inclusive and sustainable care economy, the Minister called for greater collaboration between the government, industry, and civil society.
He concluded by stressing that blending the energy of the youth with the wisdom of the elderly will be crucial in shaping a compassionate and sustainable future for India.
