Tehran Spokesman Says ‘Zionist Regime’ Does Not Deserve Recognition Amidst Ongoing Genocide
TEHRAN: The Iranian Foreign Ministry today publicly reacted to Kazakhstan’s announcement that it would be joining the US-brokered Abraham Accords, forcefully reiterating Iran’s opposition to the normalization of ties with Israel.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei stated that Iran rejects the overall concept of normalization with the Israeli regime.
He said that, in principle, Iran believes a regime responsible for “continuous genocide and aggressive actions” against other countries “does not deserve any form of recognition or normalization.”
US and Geopolitical Context
Baqaei noted that Kazakhstan has maintained relations with Israel for over three decades, suggesting the recent declaration appeared to be an attempt to show that the Israeli regime “is not isolated.”
He further accused the US of using such “theatrical actions” to facilitate the “continuation of genocide in the Gaza Strip.”
Kazakhstan officially pledged to join the Abraham Accords—a series of 2020 agreements to normalize diplomatic relations between Israel and Arab nations—during a phone call between US President Donald Trump, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The call was made from the Oval Office during Tokayev’s visit to Washington for the C5+1 summit, which also saw the US finalize a $1.1 billion deal granting an American firm rights to develop Kazakhstan’s critical minerals deposits.
