High-Profile Death Probe Transferred to CBI Amid Reports of ‘Simmering Discontent’ and Social Media Video
PANCHKULA:The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) for alleged murder and criminal conspiracy against former Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab, Mohammed Mustafa, and his wife, former Punjab PWD Minister Razia Sultana, in connection with the suspicious death of their son, Aqil Akhtar.
Aqil Akhtar was found dead under suspicious circumstances on October 16 at the family’s residence in Panchkula, Haryana.
The FIR, which was registered after the Haryana government transferred the investigation to the central agency, also names the deceased’s wife and sister as co-accused.
According to the CBI, there was evidence of “simmering discontent” between the deceased and his family members. This discord was reportedly made public by Aqil Akhtar himself in a video posted on social media prior to his death.
The initial investigation into the high-profile case was conducted by the Haryana Police following a complaint alleging foul play. The transfer to the CBI underscores the sensitive nature of the case, involving two prominent figures in Punjab’s bureaucratic and political circles.
The central agency is now set to conduct a comprehensive probe into the circumstances surrounding Aqil Akhtar’s death.
