FBI Director Patel Vows to ‘Remove Those Who Weaponized Law Enforcement for Political Purposes’
WASHINGTON D.C: FBI Director Kash Patel on Tuesday announced a sweeping and immediate crackdown on corruption within the bureau, including the termination of employees and the abolition of the CR-15 squad, just one day after revelations surfaced that several Republican senators’ private communications and phone calls had been tracked during the previous administration.
Patel stated the actions were in direct response to the “baseless monitoring” of the lawmakers during the Biden administration, and he promised further accountability to come.
In a strong statement to Fox News Digital, Director Patel framed the move as a major institutional clean-up. “We are cleaning up a diseased temple three decades in the making — identifying the rot, removing those who weaponized law enforcement for political purposes and those who do not meet the standards of this mission while restoring integrity to the FBI. I promised reform, and I intend to deliver it,” Patel said.
The CR-15 squad was a public corruption unit within the FBI’s Washington Field Office that had been reportedly involved in the sensitive investigative matter that led to the surveillance. The swift action to terminate agents and dismantle the squad signals a new, aggressive approach to internal oversight at the FBI under Director Patel’s leadership.
