AIIMS Leading Innovation with AI Diagnostics and Groundbreaking Kidney Transplants

NEW DELHI: Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, J.P. Nadda, announced a significant expansion in India’s medical education sector, stating that the country now boasts 819 medical colleges.

Addressing the 50th Convocation of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, the Minister provided key statistics reflecting the rapid growth in healthcare professional training.

Nadda highlighted the substantial increase in Undergraduate (UG) Seats, The number of MBBS seats has surged from an earlier figure of 51,000 to 1 lakh 29 thousand (129,000).

The availability of Postgraduate (PG) medical seats has also grown significantly, now standing at nearly 78 thousand (78,000).

The Minister underscored that this expansion reflects the government’s commitment to creating a robust pool of medical talent to meet the nation’s healthcare needs.

Shri Nadda praised AIIMS, New Delhi, for establishing itself as a leader in healthcare excellence and patient care in the fields of medical sciences, training, and healthcare.

He specifically noted the institution’s commitment to cutting-edge technology, AIIMS has taken the lead in training for AI-driven diagnostics and robotic surgery.

Furthermore, the Minister highlighted AIIMS’s medical advancements, noting that the institution has successfully performed groundbreaking procedures for the first time in the country, in Dual kidney transplants and Renal autotransplants.

These achievements cement AIIMS’s reputation as a premier institution driving medical innovation and advanced patient care in India.
