IMD Predicts Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall in State Starting Monday

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government has placed all district administrations and departments on high alert in anticipation of a potential cyclonic storm expected to develop over the Bay of Bengal by Monday.

State Minister Suresh Pujari confirmed the preparations in Bhubaneswar, stating that enough relief material has been arranged and that all district collectors have been kept on high alert to manage any eventuality arising from the weather system.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has been tracking the system, which began as a low-pressure area over the Southwest Bay of Bengal. The IMD forecast indicates that the system is likely to move west-north-westwards and intensify into a depression by today (Saturday) over the southeast and adjoining central Bay of Bengal.

The intensification is set to continue, with the system expected to become a deep depression by tomorrow (Sunday) and finally strengthen into a cyclonic storm over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal by Monday.

The IMD has issued a warning for the subsequent impact, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha for at least three days, starting from Monday. Authorities are urging citizens to monitor weather updates closely and for fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea as conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly.
