NEW DELHI: The pace of India’s 5G network expansion has drawn global attention, with Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw declaring that the country now boasts the second-largest 5G network in the world.
Speaking at a World Summit held in New Delhi, Minister Vaishnaw highlighted the rapid deployment, stating that the 5G network now covers 90 percent of the country. This extensive coverage is enabling high-speed connectivity even in remote and far-flung areas, according to the Minister.
In addition to celebrating the telecom sector’s expansion, Mr. Vaishnaw addressed the growing global concern over deepfakes. He announced that the government is preparing to introduce new regulations soon to tackle the menace of digitally manipulated content.
The Minister’s remarks underscore the government’s dual focus: rapidly expanding next-generation digital infrastructure while simultaneously developing a framework to manage the new digital risks that emerge alongside it. (ATP)
