Trump to Meet Putin in Hungary After Phone Call, Precedes Key Talks with Zelenskyy on Tomahawk Missiles
Washington, D.C. – With the Gaza ceasefire holding, US President Donald Trump announced he is shifting his diplomatic focus to the war in Ukraine and plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Hungary to seek a resolution.
The announcement follows a “very productive” phone call between the two leaders on Thursday.
Trump’s decision comes just ahead of his crucial White House meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday. Zelenskyy traveled to Washington to press Trump for the approval of Tomahawk long-range missiles for Kyiv, arguing that the threat of deep strikes is necessary to compel Putin to negotiate seriously.
Trump is reportedly considering the Tomahawk request as leverage for a peace deal. The planned summit in Russia-friendly Hungary signals a high-stakes diplomatic push by the US to broker an end to the conflict.
