New Delhi– Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, today, focusing on “Environment, COP-30 and Global Health.” The Prime Minister underscored India’s commitment to climate justice as a moral responsibility, citing initiatives like the International Solar Alliance and Mission LiFE.
He highlighted India’s sustainable growth trajectory, having met its Paris Agreement commitments ahead of schedule despite being the fastest-growing major economy. Modi called for technology transfer and affordable financing for developing nations to combat climate change and welcomed the “Framework Declaration on Climate Finance.”
Emphasizing a “One Earth, One Health” approach, PM Modi offered India’s successful digital health schemes to Global South countries and welcomed the “BRICS Partnership for Elimination of Socially Determined Diseases” declaration.
Looking ahead, the Prime Minister announced that as India takes over the BRICS Chairmanship next year, it will prioritize the Global South and adopt a “people-centric” and “humanity first” approach. He stated that under India’s presidency, BRICS would be redefined as “Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability.”
