Prime Minister Denounces “State Terrorism,” Vows to Hold Israel Accountable Under International Law
DOHA, QATAR – Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, announced that his country has formed a legal team to respond to a recent Israeli strike that hit Doha. The attack, which targeted a residential building, killed six people, including a Qatari security officer, and has been widely condemned by the international community.
In a press conference, the Prime Minister called the Israeli action “state terrorism” and a “blatant violation of international laws and norms.” He stated that Qatar will not tolerate any violation of its sovereignty and reserves the right to respond to the “reckless Israeli behavior.”
The Prime Minister confirmed that a legal team is being mobilized to explore all available tools to hold Israel accountable for the attack. He emphasized that Qatar’s response will be within the confines of international law and will be carried out in consultation with its allies in the region and beyond.
The strike has heightened tensions and put the future of the ongoing ceasefire negotiations in jeopardy. Qatar, which has been a key mediator between Israel and Hamas, has been widely praised for its efforts to end the conflict. However, the Prime Minister suggested that the attack has undermined these efforts and that the region has reached a “turning point” where a collective response is needed.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Qatari foreign ministry has denied claims by the U.S. that Qatar was warned in advance of the attack, stating that the call from a U.S. official came “during the sound of explosions.” The incident has been widely condemned by the United Nations, the European Union, and several countries in the Middle East and beyond.
