NEW DELHI – In a significant development for the Indian judiciary, the Supreme Court of India regained its full sanctioned strength of 34 judges today, Friday, August 29, 2025. Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai administered the oath of office to two newly appointed judges, Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi.
The swearing-in ceremony took place in the presence of other Supreme Court judges, senior advocates, and court officials. The appointments, which were cleared by the government two days prior, fill the remaining vacancies on the apex court’s bench.
Justice Alok Aradhe was previously the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, while Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi served as a judge of the Gujarat High Court. Their elevation to the Supreme Court ensures that the judiciary is operating at full capacity to handle its heavy caseload. The Supreme Court’s full strength is crucial for the efficient and timely dispensation of justice on a wide range of legal and constitutional matters.
