Jammu: Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Minhas Wednesday reviewed the Zonal Master Plan for the Eco-Sensitive Zone of the Ramnagar Wildlife Sanctuary here at a meeting of the District Level Committee.
The meeting focused on the preservation of the sanctuary’s ecological balance while ensuring sustainable development in the surrounding areas.
At the outset, Wildlife Warden Jammu Rafiq Chowdhary gave a detailed PowerPoint presentation and briefed the chair on the current status of the Zonal Master Plan. The presentation highlighted the specific classification of activities within the ESZ, categorised into Prohibited, Regulated and Promoted activities as per the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change guidelines.
Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner emphasised the importance of strict recognition and implementation of regulations vis-à-vis these activities. He directed the concerned officers to ensure that prohibited activities are completely curbed, while regulated activities are strictly monitored to prevent any ecological degradation.
He further emphasised that provisions of Eco-Sensitive Zone notification pertaining to prohibited, regulated and promoted activities are appropriately integrated in master plan/action plans of all stakeholder departments so as to achieve the ultimate objective of notifying eco sensitive zones around the Ramnagar Wildlife sanctuary.
Dr. Minhas urged the stakeholder departments and bodies to maintain close coordination for the timely implementation of the Zonal Master Plan.
He stressed that a synergistic approach between the concerned departments and bodies is essential for the effective management of the Eco-Sensitive Zone.
The meeting was also attended by Vice Chairman JDA Rupesh Kumar; Divisional Forest Officer HQ, Anil Attri; DFO Research Amit Sharma, Regional Transport Officer Jammu besides other senior officers and stakeholders.
