DUBAI:India’s wicketkeeper-batter Abhigyan Kundu etched his name into the record books on Tuesday, smashing a historic unbeaten 209 to lead India to a massive 315-run victory over Malaysia at The Sevens Stadium. The win ensures India finishes the group stage with a perfect record as they head into the semifinals of the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup 2025.
After Malaysia won the toss and elected to field, Kundu produced a masterclass in power-hitting, becoming the first Indian to score a double century in Youth ODIs. His 125-ball blitz included 17 boundaries and nine sixes, propelling India to a towering 408 for 7 in their allotted 50 overs. Kundu anchored a vital 209-run partnership with Vedant Trivedi, who contributed a solid 90, while young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi set the early tone with a 26-ball fifty.
Chasing a daunting target of 409, Malaysia crumbled under the relentless pressure of the Indian bowling attack. Deepesh Devendran was the standout performer with the ball, tearing through the Malaysian middle order to claim a devastating five-wicket haul (5/22).
Malaysia was eventually bundled out for just 93 runs in 32.1 overs. Despite a defiant 35 from Hamzah Panggi, the Malaysian batters had no answer for India’s disciplined lines. For Malaysia, Muhammad Akram provided a silver lining, claiming a five-wicket haul (5/89) despite the high scoring rate.
India now advances as Group A leaders and will face either Sri Lanka or Bangladesh in the semifinals on Friday.
