District-level training programme on NPCCHH & SBPCP held at Shopian

SHOPIAN: A district-level training programme on the National Programme on Climate Change & Human Health (NPCCHH) and Snakebite Prevention & Control Programme (SBPCP) organized by the District Surveillance Unit (DSU) Shopian, was conducted at Mini Secretariat Shopian today.

The training programme, presided over by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Shopian, Dr. Arshad Hussain Tak, highlighted the importance of strengthening climate-resilient healthcare services and improving preparedness for climate-linked health challenges.

BMO, Shopian, Dr. Mohd Yousuf Naikoo elaborated on the administrative role in managing climate-related health issues and snake bite cases, emphasizing coordinated planning, capacity building, timely reporting and effective implementation at the block level.

Physician, DH Shopian, Dr. Junaid Altaf, delivered, a detailed presentation on Snake Bite Management, focusing on early recognition, first-aid protocols, ASV administration and community awareness. He also spoke on Climate-Sensitive Clinical Assessment and Environmental Determinant-Based Screening, essential for integrating climate considerations into routine clinical practice.

The participants were also made aware about the impact of Climate Change on human health,  changing disease trends, heat-related risks, vector-borne diseases and the necessity for adaptive public health strategies.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to enhancing district-level preparedness under NPCCHH and SBPCP to safeguard community health amid evolving climatic conditions.
