The programme was organised by the Social Welfare Department Ganderbal in collaboration with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO).

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the initiative aims to cater to the needs of specially-abled individuals, who form an integral part of society, and emphasised the collective responsibility of creating inclusive spaces across government offices, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities. He reiterated that people with special needs must be provided equal access to opportunities.

He further added that the district administration is committed to covering all specially-abled individuals under relevant schemes, and that more such camps will be organised in the coming days to ensure that benefits reach every eligible beneficiary.

Under the Assistance to Persons with Disabilities for Purchase/ Fitting of Aids/ Appliances (ADIP) Scheme, a wide range of aids including wheelchairs, CP chairs, hearing aids, smart canes, rollators, battery-operated tricycles, hand-operated tricycles, Braille kits, and smart tablets were distributed. A total of 100 pre-assessed beneficiaries received prosthetic aids worth Rs.8.34 lakh during the camp.

Additionally, 119 prosthetic aids were provided to 27 beneficiaries under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana.

Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Deputy Chief Education Officer, Tehsil Social Welfare officer besides other officers and officials were present at the event.

The programme’s core objective was to assist persons with disabilities by providing durable, scientifically designed and modern aids to support their physical, social, and psychological rehabilitation, thereby reducing the impact of disabilities and enhancing their economic potential.

Resource persons from Social Welfare, Health, Education, Labour and other departments also imparted awareness on various welfare schemes, giving participants a platform to learn about multiple Government initiatives aimed at empowering specially abled persons.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from specially-abled individuals and other stakeholders.
