Historic Win in Ahmedabad Puts India on Top of Group D; Minister Mandaviya Congratulates Team
AHMEDABAD, INDIA: The Indian men’s Under-17 football team, known as the Blue Colts, has clinched a spot in the 2026 AFC U-17 Asian Cup, which will be held in Saudi Arabia. The qualification was sealed after a stunning 2-1 victory over Iran in the qualifiers held at the EKA Arena in Ahmedabad.
The win was crucial, earning India three points and taking their total tally to 7, level with Iran. However, the hosts secured the top spot in Group D based on their superior head-to-head record against the Iranian team.
Following the historic achievement, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, took to social media to congratulate the squad. Dr. Mandaviya praised the efforts behind the qualification, stating the win “reflects the dedication and hard work of the young players, their coaches, and the entire support staff.”
The Under-17 men’s team is now the fourth Indian football team to qualify for an Asian Cup next year, joining the senior women’s team, the Under-20 women’s team, and the Under-17 women’s team.
