Regular Skipper Shubman Gill Ruled Out Due to Neck Injury
Guwahati (ATP): India will face South Africa in the second and final Test starting tomorrow, Saturday, November 22, at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, with a massive change in leadership. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will captain the Indian team for the decider after regular skipper Shubman Gill was officially ruled out due to a neck injury sustained during the first match.
The match will begin at 9:00 AM IST.
India heads into the Test under immense pressure, trailing 0-1 in the series after South Africa secured an unexpected 30-run victory in the series opener at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. For India to level the two-match series, a victory in Guwahati is essential.
Gill’s neck injury, which forced him to retire hurt and subsequently miss the rest of the first Test, has not healed sufficiently. The team management has appointed Pant to take charge in a crucial series where India is desperate to avoid a rare home Test series defeat. The Barsapara Cricket Stadium will host its first-ever Test match, adding an extra element of intrigue to the contest.
