CAIRO, EGYPT: Former Asian champion Esha Singh added a significant feather to her cap by securing a bronze medal in the women’s 25-meter pistol event at the prestigious ISSF World Championship Rifle and Pistol in Cairo, Egypt, yesterday. This achievement marks the Indian shooter’s first individual senior world championship medal.
The 19-year-old talent finished the challenging final with a score of 30 to take the third spot on the podium. She finished behind the Republic of Korea’s reigning Olympic champion, Yang Jiin, who clinched the gold medal with a dominant score of 40, and China’s Yao Qianxun, who secured the silver with 38 hits.
The bronze medal further solidifies Esha’s impressive performance this year, making it her third individual ISSF medal of the season, following earlier gold and silver wins at World Cup stages.
However, it was a day of disappointment for two-time Olympic medallist and her compatriot, Manu Bhaker, who was unable to secure a podium finish in the event.
With Esha’s latest medal, the Indian contingent maintains a strong presence on the overall medals table. India is currently placed third with a total haul of three gold, five silver, and four bronze medals. They trail behind the dominating Chinese team, who lead with 10 golds, and the Republic of Korea, which holds the second spot with six golds.
The ISSF World Championship Rifle and Pistol continues to be a major showcase for global shooting talent at the Olympic Shooting Range in Cairo.
