BARAMULLA: In an effort to reach out to the people and address their developmental concerns, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, today presided over a Block Diwas programme at the auditorium of Government Degree College Dangiwacha, Rafiabad.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of civil society, traders federation, transport association, and the general public.
The general public and representatives from various sections raised several issues and demands pertaining to their respective areas, including drinking water supply, macadamization of roads, construction of protection bunds along nallahs, shortage of staff in key departments, healthcare facilities, and restoration of the bridge at Sheikhpora Hahachpora.
Responding to the issues, the DC gave a patient hearing and issued on-spot directions to the concerned officers for prompt action. He instructed the jal Shakti department to ensure adequate drinking water supply, the R&B department to expedite macadamization works, the Irrigation & Flood Control department to initiate necessary measures for constructing protection bunds, and the Health Department to address staff shortages and strengthen healthcare delivery. The DC also directed immediate assessment for restoration of the Sheikhpora–Hahachpora bridge.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the aim of conducting such public outreach programmes is to strengthen the connect between the administration and the people, ensure timely redressal of public grievances, and enhance awareness about various government welfare schemes meant for socio-economic upliftment at the grassroots level. He reiterated that public participation is key to effective, transparent, and responsive governance.
During the programme, the DC, in presence of ADC Sopore, ACD Baramulla, and the Principal of the college, released the college magazine and anthem, appreciating the institution’s efforts in promoting academic and cultural excellence.
Earlier, the DC inspected various stalls set up by different departments showcasing government schemes and services aimed at public welfare and local development.
